ONLINE WORKSHOP
DISRUPTING THE IMAGE
An Exploration of Mixed Media Portraiture on Cardboard
May 3-4, 2026

What happens when the surface shifts the conversation?

Working on cardboard disrupts the routine—making it easier to take risks.
Dive into experimental portraiture on cardboard, a surface that naturally encourages layering, cutting, sanding, and rebuilding. Instead of chasing perfect likeness, you will let the portrait emerge through construction and playful disruption. Cardboard is not neutral. It pushes back, bends, and reveals its texture, inviting both building and image-making. In this workshop, the surface is more than support. It becomes an active partner in the creative conversation.

Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is for artists who are already creating and building and are curious about what might emerge when the material takes the lead.
Whether you are new to portraiture or have an established practice, the most important thing is a willingness to experiment and let the surface influence your image.
You’ll thrive in this workshop if you are interested in:
-
Working on nontraditional surfaces
-
Layering, reworking, and evolving an image over time
-
Exploring mixed media in a hands-on, direct way
-
Seeing how disruption and experimentation can open new creative directions
No prior experience with cardboard is needed. Some familiarity with basic drawing or painting tools is helpful, but beginners are absolutely welcome.
Unlock creativity by simply changing the ground you’re working on.
